The Open Course #3 is inspired by Sawgrass (Stadium Course) #17 Par 3.
Inspiration: This short-but-intimidating par 3 is a tribute to the 17th hole at the Stadium Course of the TPC at Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra, Florida, home of the PGA Players Championship.
Details: The infamous #17’s island green leaves no room for error. Except for a tiny pot bunker to the front-right of the green, the only place for the ball to land is on the green or in the water.
History: The TPC at Sawgrass, owned and operated by the PGA Tour, was designed by Pete Dye to accommodate specators and challenge the pros. The course was routed so that play returns to (or near) the clubhouse several times. At the first tee and 18th green, spectators can watch from a terraced, earthen amphitheater 40 feet high and sheltered on three sides. The amphitheater can accommodate an audience of 20,000.
