Championship Course #8 is inspired by Oakmont #14 Par 4.
Inspiration: This par 4 is a tribute to the 14th hole at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pennsylvania.
Details: Only 360 yards in length, Oakmont’s 14th challenges players to avoid 13 bunkers off the tee. The 2nd shot is to a 46-yard, exceptionally fast green surrounded by a sea of sand.
History: The 14th at Oakmont is so fast that Chick Evans, one of the original inductees into the PGA Hall of Fame, 3-putted without even getting close enough to lip the cup in the 1929 US Amateur. In 1987, Oakmont became the first golf course in the US to be declared a National Historic Landmark.
