Open Course – #9
The final hole on the Open 9 is a tribute to the closing hole at St. Andrews.
PAR 4 | HCP 9
- Black: 354 yards
- Gold: 341 yards
- Silver: 329 yards
- Green: 307 yards
Details: The 18th at St. Andrews, which shares its fairway with #1, is one of the widest fairways in golf. The second shot calls for a short iron into a green that falls sharply from right to left and that is guarded on the left front portion by a deep depression referred to as the ‘Valley of Sin.’
History: Historians say the stone bridge that crosses the Swilcan Burn was built by the Romans as the route west to the ancient city. The bridge is the site of Arnold Palmer’s famous farewell, which was immortalized in a historic photo taken at The King’s last British Open in 1995.
